Frequently Asked Questions

THERAPY:
What can I expect when I come to your office?

You will come in for an initial appointment which will take approximately 80-90 minutes. During that appointment, we will discuss the reasons you are seeking help and your background. You will also have an opportunity to learn about me, my approach (CBT), and have your questions addressed. If we agree to move forward, we will decide together about the frequency of our meetings and generate a plan.

THERAPY:
Do you take insurance?

I am an out of network provider. I will provide you with an invoice with the relevant information for your insurance company. You will be responsible for submitting the invoice to your insurance company for reimbursement. Although insurance companies differ, reimbursement largely ranges between 50-80%. You can call to check on reimbursement rates using the following codes: 90791 (Intake), 90834 (45 minute session), 90837 (60 minute session).

THERAPY:
I'm not sure I can meet in person weekly, are there other options?

I'm happy to work with you to generate a plan that works best for your schedule and availability. I am able to offer remote sessions using Skype or FaceTime if and when you cannot make it into the office in person.

TESTING:
For a full neuropsychological evaluation, what can I expect?

A full neuropsychological evaluation typically takes 5-6 sessions. The initial meeting is an intake session to understand the issues bringing you in and to review any background testing/information. The next several sessions are to administer the assessments. During these sessions you (or your child) will be administered a variety of tests that are tailor selected for your specific concerns. Dr. Abbey will then write a formal report, synthesizing and summarizing the findings. Finally, Dr. Abbey will use the last session to provide you with feedback on the testing, review the report, offer diagnostic considerations, and generate a plan for addressing any challenges identified.

PARENTING:
How do I know if my parenting issue warrants making an appointment?

No parenting question is too small. I'm happy to schedule a brief phone call to determine if it makes sense for you to schedule an appointment. I do offer one-time appointments to address issues that do not need ongoing consultation.
